Herbed Lemon Rice

Herbed Lemon RiceI’ve been under the weather. I caught that nasty stomach bug that’s been floating around and biting people in the butt, literally. I haven’t eaten in over 24 hours and still don’t want to, but I probably should. So how does one make the BRAT diet tasty?

Low Country Shrimp Boil

IMG_0970This recipe is best executed in a large boiler or lobster pot. Feel free to adjust the vegetable ingredients to your preference. I sometimes add button mushrooms because they pick up the flavor of the Old Bay beautifully.

Yields: 6 servings

  • 3/4 to 1 cup liquid Old Bay Seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp salt
  • 3 quarts water
  • 1 (9 ounce) can beer
  • 2-3 lbs baby red potatoes
  • 2 large vidalia onions, cut in wedges
  • 2 lbs smoked sausage, cut in 2 inch lengths
  • 6 ears frozen corn on the cob, thawed (I use Birdseye Little Ears)
  • 3 lbs large shrimp, in shells

  • In an 8-quart stock pot, bring Old Bay, salt, water and beer to a boil.
  • Add potatoes and onions; cook over high heat for 8 minutes.
  • Add smoked sausage; continue to cook on high for 5 minutes.
  • Add corn to pot; continue to boil for 7 minutes.
  • Add shrimp in shells, cook for 4 minutes or until opaque.
  • Drain cookin liquid; pour contents of pot into several large bowl or shallow pails.
  • Serve with Old Bay, salt & pepper, butter and hot sauce.

Drum roll please… CAMiLEON Heels are here. If you are in my group of Gg’s that want to wear heels, because you know you should, and yet you secretly stuff flip flops into your purse for “later” these are your dream come true shoe. The heel converts from a heel to a flat. As a bonafide heel wearer (there are never flip flops stuffed in my purse) I was wary. Could this heel be stable enough to walk in since it is built to fold in? The answer is yes.  Continue reading

Bronzer How To

I posted this last year but in light of women everywhere walking around with orange faces I thought we needed a refresher course!

In this age of sunblock your face should be several shades lighter than the tan of your chest. (Example: In the photo above my face is papaya to my body’s Bridgewater tan.) If it’s not you are being super naughty and must want to look 10 years older at some point. I know. I am cruel. “Wahhhhh but that looks weird.” I can hear you whining Gg’s. Yes, it looks weird if you don’t know how to apply bronzer to give the optical illusion that your face does in fact match the rest of you. Let me teach you how so you may stay looking younger longer!  Continue reading

Muffin or Cupcake?

I was at The Chocolate Season a few weeks ago and on my way out the door I noticed a few slices of something that clearly had chocolate on it. I asked what it was and was told it was banana bread with layers of Nutella. I instantly bought a piece, because anything with Nutella in it is clearly a part of a healthy, well-rounded diet! BB Creams

What is a BB Cream???? Apparently it’s the answer to everyone’s beauty prayers. Have you heard?? They are coveted and you used to have to order them from overseas but they are in the U.S. now and you NEED to know about them! Originally called Blemish Balms because they targeted and treated blemishes, the new BB creams are beauty miracle workers! If you are a woman who applies a moisturizer, a primer, a foundation, a setting powder, and an SPF every morning, this is the thing for you! And if you don’t do all of that or even any of that now you can in ONE STEP.  (Anyone reading this blog should be wearing some sort of tinted SOMETHING and using some sort of anti-aging SOMETHING or I don’t know who I am writing for.) Grill or Broil, Same Game

Memorial Day is almost here. I’d really like to thank our soldiers for their service to our country and to the families of those who have lost loved ones, thank you for your sacrifice. With Memorial Day upon us, I think it’s officially grilling season. There are many wonders of grilling and tips and tricks that I could give you. But I really wanted to focus on steaks and lobster tails. (Mostly because my local grocer had a run on tails…) It’s so easy, you will run out and get your own for Monday! Continue reading

Borrowing Some Glam

Once upon a time Gg’s there was a girl that bought an expensive dress because her hips were wide from a darling baby, and she found the more expensive the dress the smaller her hips became. This is a true story Gg’s and it’s about me.

Glam Anonymous

It has come to my attention, Gg’s, that not all of us are comfortable with our inner Glam and expressing it in public. It’s interesting because I come from a long line of Glam and overdressing and expressing yourself through clothing and make-up. I went forth in Glam and was not always taken seriously or applauded for my efforts. I had such a good Glam support system, however, that I always brushed it off and wore too much blush or sequins to school because I was ME. Continue reading
